Ski lodging on points looks nothing like it did a few seasons ago.
For 2026–27, Ikon covers 77 destinations on five continents, spring pricing started at $1,349 for the full pass and $924 for Base, and almost every hotel program in this guide has repriced ski-season awards in the last two seasons. Marriott, Hilton and IHG have no award chart at all. Hyatt kept a chart, then widened it dramatically in May 2026. Wyndham kept a fixed chart, then added a new top tier in September 2026. Choice quietly became the most interesting transfer play in the mountains.
This guide covers six programs, World of Hyatt, Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, IHG One Rewards, Choice Privileges and Wyndham Rewards. No other loyalty programs, and no independent lodges, however good they are. If a resort has no useful option in those six, we say so plainly.
The Loyalist angle: A points price tells you what a night costs. It doesn't tell you what your status gets you at 7 a.m. on a powder day, breakfast before first lift, a waived resort fee, free parking, a late checkout that matches the last chair, or a suite upgrade that actually clears. Throughout this guide we flag the status perk that matters for skiing, not just in general. Been on one of these trips? Report your stay on Loyalist Travel, what you booked, what you got, and whether status moved the needle is exactly the data this guide is built to collect.
How to Read the Points Ranges
- Standard rooms only, one night, winter season, unless a property is priced per bedroom (Wyndham vacation clubs and Vacasa, flagged every time).
- Ranges are indicative for 2026–27, checked October 2026, not quotes. Dynamic programs (Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Choice) move with cash prices daily. Refundable bookings can be repriced as prices move.
- Cash ranges, where given, are typical mid-winter ranges before taxes/fees, meant for value math, not a promise for Christmas week or Presidents' Weekend, when everything in this guide can double.
What's New for Winter 2026–27: At a Glance
| Change | What it means in 2026 |
|---|---|
| Ikon at 77 destinations | 13 countries, 290,085 acres, the pass now reaches from Alyeska to St. Moritz to a deep Japan roster |
| New Ikon destinations for 2026–27 | SilverStar (BC), Snowriver (MI), Lutsen (MN), Granite Peak (WI) in North America; Madarao (Japan), Beidahu and Lake Songhua (China) in Asia, plus new Bonus Mountains including Tamarack (ID), Devil's Head (WI), Giants Ridge (MN), Caberfae Peaks (MI) and Snowy Range (WY) |
| Ikon Base upgrade | Base now gets unlimited Arapahoe Basin and 5 days at Snowmass |
| A new Deer Valley base | Grand Hyatt Deer Valley opened in late 2024 in the new East Village, Category 6, the single best new points opening in this guide |
| Hyatt repricing, May 20, 2026 | 5 price bands (Lowest / Low / Moderate / Upper / Top) replace the old 3; Category 8 now runs 35,000–75,000 points |
| Wyndham repricing, Sept 15, 2026 | Fixed chart is now 5,000 / 15,000 / 30,000 / 45,000 per bedroom per night, entry tier cheaper, top resorts more expensive |
| Marriott / Hilton / IHG | No award charts. Fully dynamic pricing that tracks cash, book refundable and reprice |
| Boutique partnerships moved | Small Luxury Hotels of the World is now with Hilton Honors (~390 properties). Hyatt's boutique collection is Mr & Mrs Smith, priced dynamically |
| Resort names to know | Squaw Valley is now Palisades Tahoe, linked to Alpine Meadows by gondola; the former Westin Snowmass is now Viewline Resort Snowmass, Autograph Collection; Boyne Highlands is now The Highlands |
| More resorts in scope | Also covered below: Sierra-at-Tahoe, Snow Valley, Alyeska, Sun Valley, Mt. Bachelor, Schweitzer, RED Mountain, Panorama, Sun Peaks, Le Massif de Charlevoix, Camelback and Blue Mountain (PA), Snowbasin, St. Moritz, Ischgl, Megève and the Japan roster (Furano, Shiga Kogen, APPI, NEKOMA, Zao Onsen, Myoko Suginohara, Mt. T, Arai) |
The 2026 Program Cheat Sheet
| Program | How awards price in 2026 | Free-night lever | Resort fee on awards? | Transfer partners that matter | Status perk that matters for skiing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| World of Hyatt | Published chart, 5 bands per category | Category 1–4 and 1–7 certificates; Guest of Honor | Waived on award nights, a real $30–$60/night in ski towns | Chase Ultimate Rewards, Bilt. Note: Chase Sapphire Preferred / Ink Preferred transfers to Hyatt drop from 1:1 to 4:3 on Oct 1, 2026 (Sapphire Reserve stays 1:1) | Globalist: free breakfast, 4 p.m. late checkout, waived parking on awards, Suite Upgrade Awards that confirm at booking |
| Marriott Bonvoy | Fully dynamic, no chart | 5th night free on points; 35k / 50k / 85k certificates, top up with up to 15k points | Usually still charged on awards at resorts | Amex Membership Rewards, Chase (both generally poor value at 1:1 vs. cash) | Platinum+: breakfast choice at most resort brands, lounge where offered, Nightly Upgrade Awards (clearance is checked a few days before arrival) |
| Hilton Honors | Dynamic, but standard-room rewards have a property-level cap | 5th night free for Silver and above; Aspire free-night certificate works on any standard room | Waived on award nights | Amex Membership Rewards at 1:2, the reason Hilton balances are easy to build | Diamond: space-available upgrades, executive lounge / F&B credit; Gold's F&B credit often covers an early breakfast |
| IHG One Rewards | Dynamic, closely tracks cash | 4th night free with IHG Premier / Business cards; anniversary night (40k/50k/60k by card) with unlimited points top-off | Varies by property; the total is what counts, not the headline rate | Chase, Bilt | Diamond / Milestone: confirmed suite upgrades and lounge pass as Milestone Rewards; Platinum (free with Premier card) gets upgrades when available |
| Choice Privileges | Date-based ranges, now more dynamic after Choice's 2026 program revamp (new Titanium tier) | No 4th/5th-night-free, value comes from cheap headline prices and Preferred Hotels & Resorts awards from ~20,000 points | Usually none at US midscale brands | Wells Fargo 1:2, Amex 1:1, Capital One 1:1, Citi 1:1.5 (cut from 1:2 on Apr 19, 2026) | Status matters least here. Choice is a price play, not a perks play, breakfast is included at Comfort / Quality / Sleep Inn anyway |
| Wyndham Rewards | Fixed chart: 5,000 / 15,000 / 30,000 / 45,000 per bedroom from Sept 15, 2026 | Earner card 10% / Earner Premier 25% redemption discounts; anniversary certificates cap at 15k / 30k and do not reach the new 45k tier | Rarely, except Caesars brands | Capital One, Citi, Bilt and others, at ratios that vary by bank | Same story as Choice: the win is a condo with a kitchen and washer/dryer for a fixed price, not elite treatment |
The Slope-Side Shortlist: Best in Each Program
If you read nothing else, read this. These are the stays where points still beat cash by a mile in 2026:
- Hyatt, Grand Hyatt Deer Valley (UT). Category 6, so 20,000–40,000 points under the new chart, against cash that ran $600–$1,000+ in Jan–Feb and around $900 at peak when it opened. Ski access to Deer Valley's expanded East Village terrain, huge family footprint, and Globalist breakfast. It is the standout points opening of the last two seasons.
- Marriott, The St. Regis Deer Valley (UT). Slope-side, ski valet, funicular to Main Street. Recent ski-season pricing from ~75,200 points, running to ~138,000 on peak dates, against cash approaching $4,000 on the biggest nights. Painful, and still the math works. Use an 85k certificate + top-up on a shoulder night.
- Hilton, Waldorf Astoria Park City (UT). Standard rooms at 110,000 points this ski season, next to the Canyons gondola. The natural home for an Aspire certificate + 5th-night-free combo.
- Wyndham, Club Wyndham / Vacasa condos in Park City, Steamboat and Breckenridge. At the unchanged 15,000-points-per-bedroom tier, a one-bedroom near the gondola for 15,000 points with fees waived on Vacasa bookings is still the cheapest slope-side bed in this entire guide. Book early, availability, not price, is the constraint, and minimum stays apply.
- IHG, Kimpton Taconic, Manchester, VT (for Stratton). IHG's only genuinely charming ski-town option in the East, supercharged by 4th-night-free. In the West, IHG is a Holiday Inn Express value play, which, at $300+ cash in ski towns, is not nothing.
- Choice, Cambria Hotel Copper Mountain (CO). A 127-room Cambria that opened in 2023 at Copper, steps from the lifts, Choice finally has a ski-in-adjacent flagship in the US, and Preferred Hotels opens up alpine properties in Europe that Choice's own brands never reached.
California
Mammoth Mountain & June Mountain
Mammoth Lakes (MMH, or drive from RNO / LAX) remains Marriott's mountain in California.
| Hotel | Program | Access | 2026 points (indicative) | Loyalist note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Westin Monache Resort, Mammoth | Marriott | At the Village Gondola | Dynamic, typically 45,000–85,000 in season | Still the only full-service points hotel at the gondola. Studios with fireplace/kitchenette suit families; 5th-night-free is where the value is. |
| Quality Inn Near Mammoth Mountain | Choice | 3 min to Village | Date-based, usually the cheapest points bed in town | Free breakfast, indoor hot tub. A bed, not a resort, spend the savings on demos. |
| DoubleTree by Hilton Mammoth Lakes (former Alpenhof area options) / Hampton options in Bishop for budget | Hilton | In town / 45 min | Dynamic | Bishop is the fallback when Mammoth town sells out, a real strategy on storm weekends with an early start. |
| Heidelberg Inn, June Lake | Wyndham | 6 min to June Mountain | Fixed tier, per night; its tier moved in the Sept 2026 reshuffle | Two-night minimums are common. June is the family / no-lines play; pair it with a Mammoth day. |
| Holiday Inn Express & Suites Bishop | IHG | 45 min to Mammoth | Dynamic | The 4th-night-free math works for a Mammoth basecamp if you accept the drive. |
No Hyatt in Mammoth. Hyatt's California ski play is Tahoe (below).
Palisades Tahoe (Olympic Valley + Alpine Meadows)
RNO is 47 miles away. There is still no slope-side hotel from our six programs in Olympic Valley, the Village lodging is independent. Stay in Truckee (20 min) or at the lake.
| Hotel | Program | Access | 2026 points (indicative) | Loyalist note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hampton Inn & Suites Tahoe–Truckee | Hilton | ~20 min | Dynamic, 40,000–80,000 in season typical | Default Truckee base. Free breakfast, with ski-season start times that vary. |
| Holiday Inn Express & Suites Tahoe–Truckee | IHG | ~20 min | Dynamic | Newer-feeling than most Truckee options; 4th night free helps on long weekends. |
| Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe, Incline Village | Hyatt | ~35–40 min to Alpine Meadows side | Category-level chart pricing; peak weekends price at the Upper/Top bands | A lake resort that happens to work for skiing. Worth it if you're mixing ski days with a resort stay; a commute if you're chasing first chair daily. |
| SpringHill Suites / other Marriott in Reno | Marriott | 45 min+ | Dynamic, often cheap | Only for flight-night logistics, not a ski base. |
Big Bear Mountain Resort & Snow Valley
LA's mountains (ONT / LAX / PSP). No slope-side points hotels, this is a value-tier market, and that's fine for a day/overnight trip.
Best bets: Holiday Inn Resort The Lodge at Big Bear Lake (IHG), Best-value Choice options via Bluegreen / Ascend in Big Bear Village (Choice), WorldMark / Club Wyndham Big Bear (Wyndham, per-bedroom pricing, a 1BR at the 15k tier is the family pick), and a cluster of Wyndham-branded motels (Travelodge etc.) that price at the fixed tiers. Book the condo, cook breakfast, drive 5–10 minutes.
Sierra-at-Tahoe
South Lake Tahoe / Meyers lodging is mostly independent. The practical six-program base is Stateline / South Lake Tahoe (50 min): Embassy Suites and Hampton (Hilton), Holiday Inn Express (IHG), and Marriott's Timber Lodge / Grand Residence in Heavenly Village, note Heavenly itself is an Epic mountain, you're sleeping there, skiing Sierra. Highway 50 chain controls can make that daily drive the deciding factor.
Colorado: The Heart of the Pass
Aspen Snowmass (Aspen, Snowmass, Buttermilk, Highlands)
ASE is 8 miles from Snowmass; DEN is the budget flight + a real drive. Ikon full pass gets 7 days across the four Aspen mountains; new for 2026–27, Base gets 5 days at Snowmass.
| Hotel | Program | Access | 2026 points (indicative) | Loyalist note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Viewline Resort Snowmass, Autograph Collection | Marriott | Ski-in/ski-out, Snowmass Village | Dynamic, commonly 55,000–95,000 in season | The former Westin Snowmass. Still the points answer at Snowmass. Ski concierge, heated pool. Platinum breakfast is your pre-lift plan. |
| The St. Regis Aspen Resort | Marriott | In Aspen, shuttle to lifts | Dynamic, frequently 90,000–150,000+ | Splurge / certificate play, not a value play. |
| W Aspen | Marriott | Steps to Aspen Mountain gondola | Dynamic, similar band to St. Regis | Livelier, smaller rooms. Pick St. Regis for space, W for scene. |
| Aspen Meadows Resort, Dolce by Wyndham | Wyndham | In Aspen, resort shuttle to lifts | Fixed tier; its post-Sept 2026 tier may no longer be the old 30,000-point price | Quiet, campus-like, in Aspen proper. The Wyndham option in Aspen itself, as opposed to Snowmass. |
| Hyatt Residence Club Grand Aspen | Hyatt | In Aspen | Chart / residence-club pricing, limited award inventory | Great if you find it; don't plan a trip around finding it. |
| Hotel Colorado area / Glenwood Springs cluster (Hilton, IHG, Choice, Wyndham) | All | 40 min | Much cheaper, all programs | The budget basecamp: ski Snowmass, soak in Glenwood hot springs, save 50%+ on points. Roaring Fork bus makes it work without a car. |
Steamboat
HDN is 27 miles away; the town bus is free and good, so in-town beats slope-side on value.
| Hotel | Program | Access | 2026 points (indicative) | Loyalist note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sheraton Steamboat Resort Villas | Marriott | Slope-side | Dynamic, 40,000–75,000 typical in season | Villas = kitchens + space. The default Marriott answer and a strong 5th-night-free candidate. |
| Homewood Suites / Hampton Inn & Suites Steamboat | Hilton | 5–10 min / bus | Dynamic | Homewood's kitchens + breakfast win for families staying 4+ nights. |
| Holiday Inn Steamboat Springs | IHG | In town / bus | Dynamic | Solid mid-tier with a pool; pair with 4th night free. |
| Club Wyndham Steamboat Springs | Wyndham | ~3 min + bus | Fixed, per bedroom, 15k tier is the sweet spot | 1BR and 2BR condos, hot tubs, indoor pool. Book this first if dates are open. |
| Fairfield Inn & Suites Steamboat | Marriott | In town | Dynamic, lower than Sheraton | Breakfast included, rare Marriott-brand certainty. |
Winter Park & Eldora
Winter Park is 89 miles from DEN, and the Winter Park Express train from Denver Union Station remains the best no-drive ski commute in America.
For Winter Park, the six-program map is still thin at the mountain: Holiday Inn Express & Suites Fraser (IHG), 11 minutes away, is the headline points option, with Choice/Wyndham motels in Fraser/Winter Park filling in at fixed/date-based prices. Most points-rich skiers day-trip from Denver or stay in Boulder for Eldora + a Winter Park day.
For Eldora (64 miles from DEN, 21 miles from Boulder): base in Boulder, Residence Inn / Courtyard (Marriott), Hilton Garden Inn / Embassy Suites (Hilton), Hyatt Place Boulder, all bookable, all with real breakfast, and take the RTD N bus to the mountain.
Copper Mountain, Arapahoe Basin & Summit County
This cluster changed more than any other in Colorado. You no longer have to sleep in Frisco and drive, though Frisco/Silverthorne/Dillon (10–20 min to Copper, 10–25 min to A-Basin and Keystone, which is Epic) is still the value corridor.
| Hotel | Program | Access | 2026 points (indicative) | Loyalist note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cambria Hotel Copper Mountain | Choice | At Copper, steps to lifts | Date-based; often the best cash-to-points ratio at the resort | 127 rooms, opened 2023. Outdoor hot tub, Element 29 bar/bistro. The Choice flagship story of this guide. |
| Hyatt Place Keystone / Dillon | Hyatt | ~10 min to A-Basin, ~15 min to Copper | Chart pricing, mid-category, shoulder dates at Low/Lowest bands are the steal | The Summit County Hyatt foothold. $25-ish resort/destination fees have historically applied on cash stays, awards avoid the worst of it. Globalist breakfast + parking value is real here. |
| Hotel Indigo Silverthorne | IHG | ~15 min to Copper / A-Basin | Dynamic | Newer IHG option in the corridor, a step up from the Holiday Inn in Frisco. |
| AC Hotel Frisco / Residence Inn Breckenridge | Marriott | 12–20 min | Dynamic | AC is sleek and adult; Residence Inn Breck is the family/kitchen pick (Breckenridge itself is Epic, sleep there, ski Copper/A-Basin). |
| Hampton Inn & Suites Silverthorne / Homewood Suites Dillon | Hilton | ~15–20 min | Dynamic | Reliable, breakfast-included, hot tubs. The no-drama choice. |
| Comfort Suites Summit County / Quality Inn & Suites Silverthorne | Choice | ~15–20 min | Date-based, cheap | Stack with the Cambria: 2 cheap nights in Silverthorne + 2 at Copper. |
| La Quinta / Ramada / Super 8 corridor | Wyndham | Frisco / Dillon | Fixed tiers (each property's tier moved in the Sept 2026 reshuffle) | Predictable pricing when dynamic programs spike on a powder weekend, that's Wyndham's whole pitch. |
A-Basin note for 2026–27: unlimited access on both full and Base passes changes the math, a cheap Silverthorne base + a season of A-Basin days is now one of the best-value Ikon strategies in Colorado.
Utah: Deer Valley, Park City & the Cottonwoods
SLC is the easiest major ski airport in North America: ~40 minutes to Park City/Deer Valley, ~35–45 to the Cottonwood canyons (traffic and chain controls permitting).
Pass housekeeping: Deer Valley, Solitude, Brighton, Alta, Snowbird and Snowbasin are Ikon. Park City Mountain itself is Epic, but Park City town is the lodging base for Deer Valley, so it dominates this section anyway. Deer Valley is ski-only (no snowboards).
Deer Valley & Park City
| Hotel | Program | Access | 2026 points (indicative) | Loyalist note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grand Hyatt Deer Valley | Hyatt | Deer Valley East Village, ski access to expanded terrain | Category 6: 20,000–40,000 under the May 2026 chart | Opened Nov 2024, 381 rooms + suites/residences. Heated pool + 3 hot tubs, kids club, multiple restaurants. Cash was $600–$1,000+ in peak season, points are almost always the right call. Our #1 new pick in this guide. |
| The St. Regis Deer Valley | Marriott | Slope-side, Deer Valley | Dynamic, ~75,000–138,000 in season | See the shortlist. Funicular, ski valet, sabering at sunset. |
| Waldorf Astoria Park City | Hilton | Canyons Village gondola across the street | Standard rooms 110,000 in season | Aspire certificate target. Fireplace in every room, big spa. |
| Club Wyndham Park City | Wyndham | Canyons Village, ski-in/ski-out access | Fixed, per bedroom, 1BR at the mid tier is the famous value | Full kitchens, washer/dryer, ski valet. Minimum stays (often 2–3 nights) and scarce peak inventory: book the day you buy your pass. |
| Hyatt Centric Park City | Hyatt | Canyons Village | Top-category chart pricing, expect Upper/Top bands on winter weekends | True condo-style Hyatt at Canyons. Wonderful when a Suite Upgrade Award clears; expensive at Top band, so compare against Grand Hyatt Deer Valley first. |
| Hotel Park City, Autograph Collection | Marriott | ~8 min to Deer Valley | Dynamic, below St. Regis | All-suite, quieter, golf-course setting. A saner Marriott price for Deer Valley week. |
| DoubleTree Park City – The Yarrow / Hampton Inn & Suites Park City | Hilton | In town / bus | Dynamic | The Hilton value tier in town; free town bus makes the gondola commute painless. |
| Hyatt Place Park City | Hyatt | ~12 min to Deer Valley | Chart pricing, well below Centric | The points-cheap Hyatt in Park City proper. Breakfast + ski rental on site historically. |
| Holiday Inn Express & Suites Park City | IHG | Kimball Junction / bus | Dynamic | IHG's Park City foothold, best on a 4-night, 4th-free stay. |
Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, Solitude & Snowbasin
There is still no slope-side hotel from our six programs at Alta, Snowbird, Brighton or Solitude, on-mountain lodging there is independent lodges. The play is the Cottonwood corridor in Salt Lake's southeast suburbs (~25–35 min, canyon traffic permitting):
- Hyatt Place Salt Lake City / Cottonwood (Hyatt), the closest Hyatt to both canyons, chart-priced well below Park City Hyatts.
- Residence Inn Cottonwood + Courtyard / SpringHill options (Marriott), Hampton Inn Cottonwood + Homewood Suites (Hilton), Holiday Inn Express Midvale (IHG), Comfort Inn / Quality Inn corridor (Choice) and Hawthorn Suites Midvale area (Wyndham, fixed tier), pick by who gives you breakfast earliest and parking free; all are a canyon drive, none is a resort, and in a storm cycle that's exactly what you want: cheap, flexible, cancellable.
- For Snowbasin: base in Ogden / Layton (Hilton Garden Inn Ogden, Hampton, Holiday Inn Express Ogden, Comfort Suites Ogden), 20–30 min, a fraction of Park City prices, and an underrated Ikon day-trip strategy.
- Downtown SLC works too and adds restaurants: Grand Hyatt / Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City (Hyatt), Salt Lake Marriott Downtown, Hilton Salt Lake City Center, Kimpton Hotel Monaco (IHG). Add 10 minutes to the canyon, subtract the suburban-chain feeling.
Wyoming, Montana, Idaho & the Pacific Northwest
Jackson Hole (WY)
JAC is 13 miles from the mountain, fly in, and you can be on the tram the same afternoon. Teton Village lodging is mostly independent/Four Seasons; our six programs live in the town of Jackson (~20 min, START bus).
| Hotel | Program | Access | 2026 points (indicative) |
|---|---|---|---|
| SpringHill Suites Jackson Hole | Marriott | Town, bus to Teton Village | Dynamic, mid-band for Jackson, which still means expensive in Feb |
| Hampton Inn Jackson Hole / Homewood Suites Jackson | Hilton | Town | Dynamic; Homewood's suites + breakfast suit a 4–5 night trip |
| Holiday Inn Express & Suites Jackson Hole | IHG | Town | Dynamic; IHG frequently undercuts the Hampton here |
| Super 8 by Wyndham Jackson Hole | Wyndham | Town | Fixed tier, in Jackson, a predictable price is a feature |
| Snow King area / SLH via Hilton | Hilton (SLH) | Town | SLH joined Hilton in 2024, so boutique Jackson properties that used to surface via Hyatt may now price (dynamically, often high) via Hilton, always compare the standard-room rate, not premium rooms |
Loyalist note: there's no Hyatt-branded hotel in Jackson town, the boutique properties that once surfaced through Hyatt now sit with Hilton via SLH. If Hyatt points are your only currency, Jackson Hole is a transfer-to-someone-else or save-for-Niseko trip.
Big Sky (MT)
BZN is ~52 miles away, rent the car, watch the Gallatin Canyon in weather.
- The Wilson Hotel, Residence Inn Big Sky (Marriott), still the only big-six points hotel in Big Sky town center, ~12 min to the base. Studios/suites, free hot breakfast, outdoor pool/whirlpool. Dynamic pricing now swings hard on winter weekends, budget well above shoulder-season rates, and use 5th-night-free.
- Everything else is Bozeman (all six programs represented, cheapest at IHG/Choice/Wyndham), a fine flight-night, a poor daily ski commute in a storm.
Sun Valley & Schweitzer (ID)
- Sun Valley: the resort lodges are independent. Base in Hailey / Ketchum value motels (Wyndham-branded options appear at fixed tiers) or accept Boise (2.5 hrs) as a flight base only. This is an Ikon gap in all six programs, say so to readers rather than padding it.
- Schweitzer: base in Sandpoint (~20 min), La Quinta by Wyndham Sandpoint at a fixed tier, plus Choice options in Sandpoint/Ponderay. Spokane (GEG, ~80 miles) has every program if you're combining with a travel day.
Crystal Mountain, The Summit at Snoqualmie (WA) & Mt. Bachelor (OR)
- Crystal / Summit: still no big-six hotel within ~25 miles of either. Closest useful: Hampton Inn & Suites Snoqualmie (Hilton) for the Summit (~30 min), Enumclaw/Issaquah corridor hotels (IHG, Choice, Wyndham) for Crystal, or Seattle/Tacoma suburbs as a dual-purpose base. Book cancellable, I-90 pass closures decide your ski day more than your hotel does.
- Mt. Bachelor: Bend is the best ski town in this guide for points depth, Sunriver Resort area (Destination by Hyatt properties surface there intermittently), Hilton Garden Inn / DoubleTree Bend (Hilton), SpringHill Suites / Residence Inn Bend (Marriott), Holiday Inn Express Bend (IHG), plus Choice and Wyndham across Bend/Redmond at prices Park City would envy. ~25 min to Bachelor.
Alyeska (AK)
Girdwood's Alyeska Resort hotel is independent (and the mountain is the trip). Anchorage (ANC, ~40 min) has all six programs, Hotel Captain Cook is not one of them; use Hilton Anchorage, Marriott Anchorage Downtown, Hyatt Place Anchorage, Holiday Inn Express Anchorage, or Choice/Wyndham along the Seward Highway corridor. Treat Anchorage as night 1, Girdwood (book cash, book early) as ski nights.
The East & Midwest
Vermont: Stratton, Killington–Pico, Sugarbush
| Resort | Best points bases | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Stratton | Manchester (28 min): Kimpton Taconic (IHG), the splurge; The Equinox, Luxury Collection (Marriott), the grand-hotel splurge; Hampton Inn & Suites Manchester (Hilton); Econo Lodge Manchester (Choice) | No slope-side big-six hotel at Stratton. Manchester is a genuinely nice town, this drive is a feature, not a failure. |
| Killington–Pico | Rutland (20–30 min): Holiday Inn Rutland–Killington (IHG), Hampton Inn Rutland (Hilton), Comfort Inn Trolley Square / Quality Inn Rutland (Choice), Days Inn Rutland (Wyndham, fixed) | The Killington Grand is independent. Rutland is the value base; book the IHG/Hilton with breakfast if you're chasing first chair on Route 4. |
| Sugarbush | Waterbury (35 min): Fairfield Inn & Suites Waterbury–Stowe (Marriott), plus Choice in Barre/Waterbury | Thin market. Waterbury doubles as your Stowe base (Stowe is Epic, sleep in Waterbury, choose your pass day). Waitsfield/Warren lodging is cash-only independents. |
New Hampshire & Maine: Loon, Sunday River, Sugarloaf
- Loon (Lincoln, NH): Holiday Inn Express Lincoln East (IHG), Econo Lodge Lincoln (Choice), Days Inn Lincoln (Wyndham, fixed), Hampton options in Plymouth. No Marriott/Hilton in Lincoln itself.
- Sunday River & Sugarloaf (ME): still no big-six hotel near either. Bethel (Sunday River) and Carrabassett Valley (Sugarloaf) are independent-lodge country. Farmington/Wilton (Choice/Wyndham motels) is the closest chain foothold for Sugarloaf.
Michigan, Minnesota & Wisconsin (Including the 2026 Newcomers)
- The Highlands & Boyne Mountain (MI): Petoskey (20–30 min) is the base, Courtyard Petoskey (Marriott), Holiday Inn Express Petoskey (IHG), Hampton Inn Petoskey (Hilton), Quality Inn Petoskey (Choice), Days Inn / AmericInn Petoskey (Wyndham, fixed).
- NEW, Snowriver (MI, Upper Peninsula): Wakefield/Ironwood motels, Wyndham and Choice have the only chain presence in the area. Expect fixed/date-based bargains and thin inventory.
- NEW, Lutsen Mountains (MN): Grand Marais / Tofte corridor is independents; Duluth (90 min, all six programs) is the points base for most.
- NEW, Granite Peak (WI): Wausau is a full-chain town 10 minutes away, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton, Fairfield, Holiday Inn Express, La Quinta and Comfort Inn all compete, all cheap by ski-country standards. The Midwest additions are where your Choice/Wyndham balances suddenly go furthest.
Pennsylvania: Camelback & Blue Mountain (PA)
A gift for East Coast points holders: Stroudsburg / Tannersville / Allentown corridor has Hampton and Homewood (Hilton), Holiday Inn Express (IHG), Fairfield (Marriott), Comfort / Quality (Choice) and Wyndham motels within 15–35 minutes, at Poconos prices. Camelback's own lodge is independent/aquatic-resort, fun, cash, not points.
West Virginia: Snowshoe
Still no big-six hotel within an hour. The resort village is independent condos (book cash / Vacasa, and note Vacasa can be booked with Wyndham points by phone at per-bedroom rates where eligible, with blackout and minimum-stay rules). Elkins (45 min) has a Hampton (Hilton) and Wyndham/Choice motels for a cheaper, longer-drive base.
Taos Ski Valley (NM)
Taos town is 19 miles / ~35 min below the valley, stay there, eat better, pay less:
Hotel Don Fernando de Taos, Tapestry by Hilton and Hampton Inn Taos (Hilton), Quality Inn Taos (Choice), Days Inn / Super 8 Taos (Wyndham, fixed), plus the Sagebrush / El Monte independents outside scope. Don Fernando is the nicest big-six room in town; the Wyndhams are the cheapest predictable ski beds in New Mexico. Hotel and ski shuttle availability varies by season, so the rental car is the safe default.
Canada
Tremblant (QC)
The pedestrian village is the best big-six village in eastern North America, three programs within a short walk of the gondola:
| Hotel | Program | Access |
|---|---|---|
| Le Westin Tremblant | Marriott | 3-min walk to gondola, village centre |
| Residence Inn Mont-Tremblant Manoir Labelle | Marriott | ~7-min walk, suites + free breakfast, the family pick |
| Homewood Suites Mont-Tremblant | Hilton | 3-min walk, suites + breakfast |
| Holiday Inn Express & Suites Tremblant | IHG | ~6-min walk, breakfast included |
| Microtel by Wyndham Mont-Tremblant | Wyndham | 12-min drive, fixed tier |
Loyalist note: Marriott's two village properties + 5th-night-free is the strongest East/Canada ski redemption stack in this guide.
Blue Mountain (ON)
Westin Trillium House, Blue Mountain (Marriott), a few minutes' walk to the gondola, the default. Collingwood (10–12 min) adds Georgian Bay Hotel, Trademark by Wyndham and Days Inn Collingwood (Wyndham, fixed) and Comfort Inn & Suites Collingwood (Choice). Toronto (YYZ) is 86 miles, don't day-trip it in lake-effect snow if you can stay in Collingwood.
SkiBig3: Banff Sunshine, Lake Louise, Mt. Norquay (AB)
Stay in Banff or Canmore, the SkiBig3 bus links town to all three mountains, so any Banff bed is a ski bed.
| Hotel | Program | Base |
|---|---|---|
| Delta Hotels Banff Royal Canadian Lodge | Marriott | Banff |
| Moxy Banff | Marriott | Banff, opened 2024, retro-chic, cheaper points than the Delta most nights |
| Fairmont Banff Springs / Lake Louise | (Accor, out of scope) | Listed only to say: not bookable with these six programs |
| Holiday Inn Canmore / Holiday Inn Express Banff area options | IHG | Canmore (25 min to Banff) |
| Quality Resort Chateau Canmore / other Canmore Choice | Choice | Canmore |
| Super 8 / Days Inn Canmore | Wyndham | Canmore, fixed tiers |
Calgary (YYC, 90 min to Banff) has every program at prairie prices, a legitimate first/last-night strategy.
British Columbia: Revelstoke, RED, Panorama, Sun Peaks, Cypress & NEW SilverStar
- Revelstoke: Wyndham owns this town in our scope, Days Inn, Ramada and Super 8 Revelstoke, all fixed-tier, all ~11–13 min. Add the Sandman / Coast independents (cash) if Wyndham sells out on a powder cycle.
- RED Mountain (Rossland): Trail/Rossland motels, Choice and Wyndham presence is thin; Spokane and Kelowna are not day bases. Book the independent ski lodges early, or a Wyndham in Trail if available.
- Panorama (Invermere): resort lodging is independent; Radium Hot Springs (25 min) has Choice/Wyndham motels, ski Panorama, soak in Radium, that's the trip.
- Sun Peaks: Grand / village hotels are independent. Kamloops (45 min, all six programs) is a workable base, not an ideal one.
- Cypress (Vancouver): stay in North/West Vancouver (Holiday Inn North Vancouver, IHG; Comfort Inn North Vancouver, Choice) or downtown Vancouver (every program, including Hyatt Regency Vancouver, Marriott Pinnacle, Hilton Vancouver) and drive 30 min. Urban points depth makes Cypress the easiest city+ski combo in Canada.
- NEW, SilverStar (Vernon, BC): Vernon (20 min), Holiday Inn Express Vernon (IHG), Hampton Vernon area (Hilton), plus Choice/Wyndham motels. SilverStar's own village is independent condos. Family-friendly, mid-size, and a genuinely good use of a cheap IHG night.
Le Massif de Charlevoix (QC)
Baie-Saint-Paul (20 min) is independents; the practical big-six base is Quebec City (75 min), Hilton Quebec, Delta Quebec (Marriott), Hotel PUR (Marriott Tribute), Holiday Inn options (IHG), Hyatt Place Quebec area, combine one Le Massif day with a Quebec City weekend rather than basing a whole trip on the drive.
Europe, Asia-Pacific & Chile
Worth knowing: our six programs are thin in the Alps compared with North America. The growth story is partnerships, Hilton + SLH and Hyatt + Mr & Mrs Smith put boutique alpine hotels on points, at dynamic prices that are sometimes eye-watering. The local independent priced in cash often beats burning 100k+ points.
Zermatt (CH) & St. Moritz (CH)
- Zermatt: no core-brand hotel from our six in the car-free village. The points routes are SLH properties via Hilton Honors and Mr & Mrs Smith properties via World of Hyatt, both dynamic, both bookable on points on some dates, neither a bargain guarantee. Otherwise: Täsch (12 min by train) motels, or cash in Zermatt.
- St. Moritz (newer Ikon addition): Kulm / Badrutt's are independent icons (cash). Pontresina / Celerina offer smaller SLH/Mr & Mrs Smith possibilities via Hilton/Hyatt on some dates. Milan (MXP) and Zurich (ZRH) airport hotels are logistics nights, not bases.
Chamonix–Mont-Blanc & Megève (FR)
Chamonix town: Hôtel Mont-Blanc and Alpina are independent; the big-six foothold is SLH/Mr & Mrs Smith boutiques via Hilton/Hyatt, plus a Choice-affiliated / partner presence that rotates, search Choice's European partner inventory (and Preferred Hotels via Choice) before assuming nothing exists. Megève is similar: boutique-first, partnership-priced. Geneva (GVA, ~75 min to Chamonix) has every program and is the safe points night before an early flight.
Dolomiti Superski & Valle d'Aosta (IT), Kitzbühel & Ischgl (AT), Grandvalira (Andorra)
- Dolomiti / Val Gardena / Cortina: SLH via Hilton is the strongest of the six here (several Dolomites SLH stalwarts), Mr & Mrs Smith via Hyatt second. Bolzano / Brunico have IHG/Choice partner options sporadically.
- Valle d'Aosta (Courmayeur, Cervinia, La Thuile, Pila, Monterosa): Courmayeur has SLH/Mr & Mrs Smith boutiques; Aosta city has midscale chain options. Turin/Milan are airport bases.
- Kitzbühel: the grand hotels are independent; SLH (Hilton) and Preferred Hotels (Choice) have both carried Austrian alpine boutiques. Innsbruck (75 min) has Marriott / Hilton Garden Inn / Holiday Inn depth.
- Ischgl: village lodging is independent almost to a hotel. Landeck (30 min) motels or Innsbruck base. Don't plan an Ischgl trip around points.
- Grandvalira (Andorra): Andorra la Vella / Escaldes hotels include partner inventory via Choice/Preferred on some dates; Barcelona (BCN, 3 hrs) is a city add-on, not a ski base.
Niseko United & the Expanded Japan Roster (JP)
Japan is now Ikon's deepest international roster, Niseko United, Arai, Shiga Kogen, Mt. T, Myoko Suginohara, Furano, APPI, NEKOMA, Zao Onsen, and new Madarao for 2026–27, and it holds this guide's most famous points hotel:
| Hotel | Program | Access | 2026 points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono | Hyatt | Slope-side, Hanazono | Category 8: 35,000–75,000 under the May 2026 chart (standard nights were 40,000 under the old chart; late-season 2026 availability was widely reported at 40,000–45,000 before the new bands took effect) |
| Hilton Niseko Village | Hilton | Adjacent to Niseko Village gondola | Dynamic, standard rooms are scarce in peak; premium-room prices can run into the hundreds of thousands. Book the standard room the day it appears, or don't book Hilton here |
Hyatt's footprint in Niseko is now just the Park Hyatt in Hanazono. The Hyatt House that used to sit in Hirafu is no longer part of World of Hyatt.
For the other Japan resorts: Furano (Prince hotels, independent; Asahikawa chains as a base), Shiga Kogen / Zao / Myoko / Madarao (ryokan and independent lodges dominate; Nagano City and Yamagata City have IHG / Choice (Comfort) / Wyndham (via partner) city hotels for a hybrid trip), APPI / NEKOMA (resort hotels independent; Morioka / Fukushima city chains). Japan rewards a city + ski split: 2 nights in a points-rich city, 3 nights cash in a lodge with an onsen and half-board. Trying to do it all on points is how you end up commuting past the powder.
China additions, Beidahu & Lake Songhua, plus Yunding: resort hotels are domestic/independent; Jilin City and Chongli have IHG/Holiday Inn and other chain presence on some dates, but do not build a first China ski trip around US-program points. Mona Yongpyong (KR): resort lodging independent; Seoul chains are a city add-on (3 hrs), not a base.
Australia & New Zealand (Southern Winter: June–October)
- Thredbo & Mt. Buller (AU): no big-six hotel in either village. Canberra (for Thredbo, 2.5 hrs) and Melbourne (for Buller, 3 hrs) have every program, treat them as first/last nights. Jindabyne (Thredbo, 35 min) has Wyndham/Choice-affiliated motels on some dates.
- Coronet Peak, The Remarkables & Mt. Hutt (NZ), Queenstown is the model: stay in Queenstown, bus to both mountains.
- Hilton Queenstown Resort & Spa + DoubleTree Queenstown (Hilton), Kawarau Village, ~25–30 min to both, standard-room Hilton value is still findable in NZ winter.
- Crowne Plaza Queenstown + Holiday Inn Queenstown Frankton Road / Holiday Inn Express Queenstown (IHG), Crowne Plaza is the in-town pick; 4th-night-free in NZ winter is excellent value.
- Ramada Suites Queenstown Remarkables Park (Wyndham), fixed tier, apartment-style, near the airport / Remarkables road.
- Choice has Queenstown partner inventory via its NZ network, and Queenstown is one of the few southern-hemisphere towns where Choice prices undercut IHG.
- Mt. Hutt: Methven is independent lodges; Christchurch (80 min, all six programs) is too far for a daily base unless you're combining city days.
Valle Nevado (Chile, June–September)
The three on-mountain hotels are independent and often sold as ski-week packages. Santiago (50 miles, a famous switchback road) has Hyatt Centric / Hyatt Place Santiago, Marriott Santiago, The Ritz-Carlton Santiago (Marriott), Hilton Santiago area properties, InterContinental / Holiday Inn Santiago (IHG), a great city-points scene, a bad daily ski commute in storm traffic. Split it: city nights on points, mountain nights on cash.
How to Stock Up: 2026 Edition
| Program | Best transfer move in 2026 | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Hyatt | Bilt (1:1) and Chase, but note Sapphire Preferred / Ink Preferred drop to 4:3 from Oct 1, 2026; Sapphire Reserve holds 1:1. If you're sitting on Preferred points earmarked for Niseko or Deer Valley, the transfer deadline was real. | Category 1–7 certificates no longer reach Category 8 ski icons at any band |
| Marriott | Amex/Chase transfers are usually poor value, earn via stays, cards and bought-points sales only when a specific dynamic price is mispriced low | Resort fees on awards; certificates cap + 15k top-up only |
| Hilton | Amex 1:2 is the engine. Frequent 40–50% transfer bonuses make Waldorf Park City cost ~55k Amex points a night in standard terms | Premium rooms are not standard rooms, filter for "standard room reward" before falling in love with a date |
| IHG | Chase/Bilt transfers for a specific stay; buy-points sales at ~0.5¢ are often rational for ski towns where cash is $250+ and awards price near cash × 0.5¢ | Dynamic pricing means the 4th-night-free is doing most of the work, on a 2-night trip, compare cash first |
| Choice | Wells Fargo 1:2 is the best headline ratio left in hotel points; Citi is now 1:1.5 (was 1:2), Amex and Capital One 1:1 | No free-night multiplier. The value is Preferred Hotels and cheap US midscale, price both before transferring |
| Wyndham | Capital One and other bank transfers at modest ratios; co-branded Earner cards for the redemption discount | Sept 15, 2026 reshuffle moved individual hotels between tiers, a hotel that was 15k last season may be 30k (or 45k) now, so the specific property's current tier is what matters |
The universal ski-trip rules, 2026 edition:
- Book points the day you buy the pass. Slope-side award inventory (Grand Hyatt Deer Valley, Club Wyndham Park City, Park Hyatt Niseko, Sheraton Steamboat) is a spring/early-summer game, not a December game.
- Use the multiplier, not the headline. A 60k Marriott night is 48k effective on a 5-night stay. A 50k IHG night is 37.5k effective on a 4-night cardholder stay. Compare effective prices.
- Reprice dynamic awards monthly. Marriott/Hilton/IHG/Choice prices fall when cash falls (shoulder-season warm spells are your friend). Cancel-and-rebook is free money.
- Fixed-chart programs are your powder-weekend hedge. When a storm cycle spikes every dynamic price in Utah, Wyndham's fixed tiers and Hyatt's capped chart bands (if you can find Low/Moderate) are the ceiling the other programs don't have.
- Always do the resort-fee math. A "cheaper" Marriott award that still charges $40/night resort fee + $35 parking can lose to a Hyatt award that waives both, especially for Globalists.
Bottom Line
Booking ski hotels on points used to be a spreadsheet exercise: look up a fixed price, transfer, done.
In 2026 it's a strategy. Hyatt still offers the best capped value in skiing, Grand Hyatt Deer Valley at Category 6 is the redemption of the year, and Park Hyatt Niseko is worth its new Category 8 price on a standard-band night and not on a Top-band night. Marriott offers the best slope-side footprint (Snowmass, Steamboat, Deer Valley, Tremblant, Blue Mountain, Mammoth) if you'll play the dynamic-pricing and 5th-night game. Hilton is the easiest balance to build and now owns the boutique back door (SLH) in the Alps and Jackson. IHG is the 4th-night-free value play in town after town. Choice, with a hotel at Copper, a 1:2 Wells Fargo transfer, and Preferred Hotels, is no longer the punchline of ski-points guides. And Wyndham, even after its 45,000-point top tier arrived, still sells the cheapest predictable condo by the gondola in America, if you book it before everyone else reading this does.
Where the pass went new for 2026–27, SilverStar, the Midwest trio, Madarao, points are thin, cheap and mostly Choice/Wyndham/IHG. That's not a flaw in the guide. That's the opportunity: those are the trips your leftover balances were made for.
Skiing one of these this winter? Report your stay on Loyalist Travel, tell us the status you held, the room you booked, the room you got, and what breakfast, parking and late checkout actually looked like. The 2027 edition of this guide should be built on verified stays, not award calendars.
