UpgradeSuite, with a suite upgrade awardRoomStandard room (cash) → Grand King SuiteLoungeGiven
A Globalist paid cash for a multi-night summer stay, choosing cash over points because the strong US dollar made the rate cheap by US flagship-hotel standards, and applied a Suite Upgrade Award at booking to confirm the Grand King Suite, the hotel's entry-level suite, laid out like two king rooms combined with a separate living area. Arriving around 10 a.m. after Delta's inaugural Los Angeles flight, he was checked in and given a Grand Club Lounge key to wait in comfort until the suite was ready around noon. The 31st-floor lounge stayed open all day with breakfast, snacks and evening canapes, and suite guests could also use the Collins Kitchen breakfast buffet, though his early sightseeing starts meant he mostly skipped it. Room service one night, a club sandwich and tiramisu, came to about $60 AUD with delivery and tip, which he called a convenience splurge. Service stood out throughout, including a loaned umbrella on a rainy day, and he said he would happily book again.
