UpgradeSuite, with a suite upgrade awardRoomEntry level room (cash, $129/night) → Ocean Lagoon SuiteBreakfastBuffet onlyLoungeGivenWelcome amenityGiven
A Globalist booked an entry level room for cash at $129 per night at this then Category 4 hotel, noting points at 15,000 per night were poor value at that rate, and used a suite upgrade certificate toward a Grand Suite King. At arrival he was upgraded further to the Ocean Lagoon Suite for his Globalist status, with a wraparound balcony he preferred for its lagoon views over the busier ocean side. He rated the Grand Club lounge, free for Globalists, as one of the best in the Hyatt portfolio, and the hotel greeted a birthday celebration with cake, balloons and a planned itinerary. Downsides were the roughly 30-minute drive to main tourist attractions, though Uber was cheap, and halted construction covered up on site.

UpgradeSuite, with a suite upgrade awardRoomRoom (type not specified in review) → Ocean Lagoon Suite
A Globalist stayed four nights in late 2017 and used a suite upgrade to stay in the Ocean Lagoon Suite, a 753 sq ft suite with a wraparound balcony and views of both the Atlantic Ocean and Marapendi Lagoon, with a separate living room and bedroom. She called it perhaps her favourite Hyatt suite and praised the beautiful new hotel across from the beach and the accommodating staff. Her main complaint was the distance from downtown Rio, with Uber needed everywhere and no free shuttle to the metro or nearby malls and restaurants.
