A Globalist booked the cheapest room for one night at $180 cash, judging it better value than points at this then-Category 5 property, and arrived around 10 p.m. His Globalist status was recognised at check-in and he was upgraded to a room facing Mount Namsan, room 1553 on the 15th floor, the opposite direction from the room he had booked; no suite upgrades were available at that late hour. Globalist breakfast was only complimentary in the Grand Club, not at The Terrace or by room service, but the club buffet offered Korean and Western dishes, made-to-order omelets, freshly squeezed juices and barista coffee, and he missed the 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. evening spread because of his late arrival. He preferred this hotel to the Park Hyatt Seoul and said he would happily return, though the gym and wellness areas were crowded.

UpgradeSpecialty suite, offered without askingRoomStandard room (Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts, $260/night incl. taxes/fees, $60 after the Amex Platinum FHR credit) → Grand Suite (room 1160)BreakfastBuffet onlyLoungeGivenWelcome amenityGiven
A Globalist booked one night through American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts at $260 including taxes and fees, effectively $60 after the Amex Platinum FHR credit, with a $100 food and beverage credit. At check-in staff told him he had been upgraded to the Grand Suite as Globalist recognition, and because the 52 sqm suite, room 1160, was not yet ready he was taken to the Grand Club lounge to complete check-in. A bottle of red wine, fruit and local snacks were waiting as welcome amenities from the FHR booking and his status. Breakfast for two at The Terrace was complimentary under FHR and rated only okay, while the Grand Club's evening cocktail spread was good enough for a light dinner; the $100 credit, recognised as KRW 130,000, covered three room-service dishes. He rated elite recognition 9 out of 10, though the hotel is not within walking distance of a subway station.
