UpgradeNoneRoomRoom (type not specified in review; confirmed suite upgrade applied) → Club floor room with balconyBreakfastBuffet onlyLoungeGiven
The reviewer arrived with a confirmed suite upgrade, but the hotel did not honor it at check-in and, after he argued the point, gave him points compensation he judged worth more than the suite itself, plus a club floor room with a small balcony and a view through buildings to the bay. The Regency Club lounge in the former top-floor restaurant was the highlight, with a generous breakfast spread including smoked salmon and substantial evening offerings such as tacos and meatballs. He liked the busy atrium hotel and recommended it for the Embarcadero area despite the rough, non-proactive handling of the downgrade. His own elite status is not stated in the review, so it is recorded as unknown.

UpgradeSuite, offered without askingRoomRoom (type not specified in review) → Embarcadero Suite with panoramic Bay Bridge viewLoungeGiven
On a semi-mattress run at this Category 4 property, the reviewer was told at check-in that he had been upgraded to an Embarcadero Suite with a panoramic Bay Bridge view, on his first stay as a trial Diamond member and the first time a hotel had upgraded him without asking for a fee. The suite itself was worn, with dingy carpet, stain-like wallpaper, an angular layout and sliding doors that screeched loudly enough to hurt his ears. He visited the top-floor Regency Club lounge and found tables uncleared and the cold cuts giving off an unpleasant smell, though staff were friendly. Parking was $60 per night at the hotel against about $20 in a structure behind it. Status is recorded as unknown because the review uses the legacy Diamond tier name, which has no canonical slug; he recommended the hotel for its location only.
