    UpgradeSuite, offered without askingRoomLandmark Suite

The suite would not heat to 69 degrees and maintenance could not fix it on a Saturday night. Probably the Hyatt Regency next time.

    UpgradeSuite, offered without askingRoomking suite

Small windows in the living room and bedroom face another building. Limited light, but not so you'd notice.

Room2 Queens Room (via Chase Luxury Hotel & Resort Collection, about $350 including fees) → 2 Queen room 609, street viewBreakfastRestaurant or F&B creditWelcome amenityGiven

A breakfast of about $50 was credited in full despite a $20 cap. Practically flawless, even with $55 nightly valet and slow Wi-Fi.

    Roomtop floor tower room

Fantastic room, and street noise was no issue up top. Better food at the Hyatt Regency Austin midweek, but the Driskill wins on character.

UpgradeHigher room category, offered without askingRoomvintage king (Cat 1-7 cert + points) → deluxe king corner room (10th floor)BreakfastFull: buffet and à la carteWelcome amenityNot given

Valet never hit the bill, and the $100 daily breakfast credit at 1886 Cafe worked well. But street noise, a crooked bathroom door, slow drains.

    Late checkoutHonouredWelcome amenityGiven

Check-in at 1:30pm, a 2pm checkout offer, and birthday beers and cake for their brother. One of the best US stays despite patchy wifi.

UpgradeSpecialty suite, with a suite upgrade awardRoomlandmark suite

Used an expiring award for a junior suite despite warnings it was not worth it, and got a Landmark Suite instead. Superb.

UpgradeHigher room category, offered without askingRoompackage via Travel Leaders → larger king roomBreakfastFull: buffet and à la carte

The larger room was not as small as feared, and the Travel Leaders package included a food-and-beverage credit. Decent service, historic feel, good location.

UpgradeSuite, with a suite upgrade awardRoomtiny suite

The tiniest suite ever seen, and regular rooms are very small too. Would never stay again: the Hyatt Regency gave free suite upgrades.

UpgradeSuite, with a suite upgrade awardRoomStandard room → Primrose SuiteWelcome amenityGiven

Welcome cookies came late but hot, and a second bag waited at checkout. Bridal suite with a balcony and ceilings at least 12 feet high.

UpgradeHigher room category, after askingRoomPrive rate → decent room (after room change)

One of the worst rooms in 20 years, at nearly $400 a night during ACL. An hour-plus at the desk got a decent one.
