A Marriott Platinum member spent two nights after five nights at the neighbouring St. Regis, booking two base-level overwater bungalows with free night certificates and points at 71,000 or 77,500 points per night against cash rates over $2,000 per night. He applied Nightly Upgrade Awards to one reservation and cleared into the Premium Otemanu View Overwater Villa with plunge pool, the nicest type he had selected, which he called a top-five room of all time. Breakfast was complimentary for two under his Platinum status from a substantial buffet and the children were not charged as expected, both rooms received a bottle of sparkling wine and local treats as a welcome amenity with no difference between his Platinum room and his wife's Gold room, and there is no club lounge. The resort fee was 11,500 XPF per night, about $113, including airport transfers, service was polite but laid-back, bags containing medication and a laptop were misplaced on transfer until a third follow-up, and the lagoon held almost no sea life, with a single fish seen, keeping the stay mixed despite the views and fresh rooms.
