UpgradeHigher room category, offered without askingRoomKing bed suite with balcony (cash, standard rates) → King bed suite with balcony and terraceBreakfastÀ la carte only
On a three-night family stay in October half term, paid at standard rates with two rooms booked, one king suite was upgraded on the basis of Rob's Globalist status to a version with a large south-facing terrace, although the terrace was the only physical difference from the other room and the family never used it in the cold rain. Breakfast at Juniper was a la carte, with fruit, pastries and cold cuts brought to the table before the hot dish, and the food at the hotel's only restaurant was uniformly excellent. They loved the spectacular mountain setting and the outdoor activities, but found the indoor pool too small, the outdoor pool and whirlpools not warm enough, and evenings monotonous once dinner was over. The luxury transfer arranged by the hotel from Muscat Bay cost about 400 pounds and took nearly three hours, with a 4x4 required for the final climb.

UpgradeSuite, with a suite upgrade awardRoomStandard room (points, 25,000/night) → Jabal Terrace (room 38)BreakfastÀ la carte onlyWelcome amenityGiven
A Globalist booked a standard room for three nights at 25,000 points per night when cash rates were over $600 per night, and used a suite upgrade award to confirm the Jabal Terrace, choosing its huge outdoor terrace over the larger Loft Suite. Fresh fruit, pomegranate juice and sweets were waiting as a welcome amenity, and breakfast at Juniper was a la carte with as much as he wanted to order. He called the mountain setting stunning and said he would return in a heartbeat, but service was badly understaffed: at the Rose Lounge he had to beg to be served and once waited 30 minutes for a single drink while staff repeatedly asked for his room number, guides on two excursions forgot cups and water, and the single dinner restaurant felt exhausted after three nights. The hotel car transfer cost 90 OMR, about $234 one way.
