RoomRoom booked with an expiring Category 1-7 free night award (type not specified) → Two-queen room 709, Sunset Boulevard view (7th floor)BreakfastBuffet only

A Globalist family used an expiring Category 1-7 free night award, the award earned for reaching 60 Hyatt elite nights, for a February staycation when cash rates were typically $300 to $400 and the hotel was a Category 6, later Category 5. They were placed in two-queen room 709 on the 7th floor facing Sunset Boulevard. Valet parking at $75 per night was covered on the Globalist award stay, though self-parking behind the hotel was not chargeable to the room. The Globalist breakfast at Riot House was the buffet with made-to-order eggs, priced at $44.99 per adult and $19.99 per child for paying guests, with Globalist cover including the 20% mandatory tip and 3% surcharge, and they called it the best part of the stay. The mandatory destination fee was $32 per night. Downsides dominated the verdict: dark drab decor, a shower and tub combo with low pressure and poor spray that the hotel blamed on California regulations, too few towels for four guests, a broken Chromecast, and heavy noise from Sunset Boulevard and the nearby elevators through gaps in the windows, with earplugs left in the room instead of a fix and light pollution from a digital billboard across the street. The rooftop pool was too cold in February, and they recommended passing unless the location is needed. Status is strongly evidenced by the 60-night award and the Globalist parking and breakfast treatment described, rather than stated in a single line.

UpgradeBetter view, offered without askingRoom1 King Bed (cash, $152.15/night + taxes, $704.13 total for 4 nights) → 1 King Bed Sunset Boulevard View (9th floor, later moved to 7th floor in same room type)BreakfastÀ la carte onlyWelcome amenityGiven

A Globalist stayed four nights on an unusually cheap cash rate of $152.15 per night plus taxes, $704.13 in total, when the points price would have been 84,000 for a Category 6 off-peak stay. He booked a base 1 King Bed and the app showed a complimentary upgrade a day before arrival to a Sunset Boulevard View king, 342 sq ft against 277 sq ft for entry rooms, first on the 9th floor. Noise through the wall from the neighbouring room's TV kept him awake for two hours on night one, so he was moved to the 7th floor in the same room type and had no further disturbance. Globalist breakfast at Riot House covered one entree, a coffee and a juice per person, but a single breakfast sandwich with latte and orange juice would have cost $47.50 after the automatic 20% gratuity and 3% surcharge, and he rated the food very average. Valet parking was $75 per night with no self-parking nearby, and the destination fee was $32 plus tax per night at the time, though Globalists are exempt; a voucher for two reusable water bottles was handed over at check-in. He praised the location, views and sunroom-style rooms but called the furniture dated and said he would hesitate without Globalist status negating the fees.
